Where’s Togo?

Togo is located in Western Africa sandwiched between Benin on the east and Ghana on the west. Burkina Faso is at its northern boarder. Its coastal boarder in the south is on the Bight of Benin.

At present, Multiply the HARVEST is working in cooperation with other organizations to develop and structure projects which will be implemented in the pilot village of Vakpossito.  In addition to these projects we are also planning construction of our Togo office and living space and upgrading the Cabinet Medical La Charité.  Below you can find recent updates as to our progress.  Running in parallel with project development, we continually seek donations and funding to carry out our work and to support the Multiply the HARVEST field team.

Clean Water Source and Sanitation System

Multiply the H.A.R.V.E.S.T. has installed a water filtration system at the Cabinet Medical la Charité. This is our first step in providing the update to the medical clinic. Patients will now have safe water to drink, mix medications and perform wound cares. This water purification system was provided by employees at Lakeview Hospital Emergency Department. Planning is in progress to expand the clinic with a patient shower, bathroom, a larger exam room and a small laboratory. We are still in need of additional funding for this project.

Organic Farming Project

A space has been cleared on our Vakpossito property to start an organic growing project. The plan is to try growing Moringa as a nutritional food source and introduce it to the local people. A compost pit has been dug and composting started. Seeds have been propagated for an avocado tree and a mango tree and will soon be ready to plant. Crop diversity and storage are also a focus which will have an impact on nutritional intake.

Educational Programs

In November an Alphabetization program was started for illiterate women. Multipy the H.A.R.V.E.S.T had initially hoped for 30 women. On Registration day 80 women showed up to register for classes either in French or Ewe. It has been very rewarding to see the dedication and progress of the women (and a couple of men).

Additional programs include Natural Family Planning consistent with the teaching of the Catholic Church and health program to be carried out with our local representative, Assistant Medical Gone.
